Pool Lifeguard Re-qualification ONLY

Pool Lifeguard Awards are only valid for one year from the date of your assessment. Pool Lifeguarding requires a high degree of judgment, knowledge, skill, experience, and fitness in both day-to-day guarding and the stress of an emergency. Regular updates to your training help sustain the lifeguard’s confidence and ability to prevent accidents and respond competently when they occur.

Course Duration: 6 hours
Delivery Mode: Face to Face
Location: The course is conducted at various locations within Western Australia.
Pre-requisites: You must hold a Current Lifeguard Award or equivalent along with a current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
Minimum Age Requirements: 16 years
Certification: On successfully completing this course, candidates will receive the following awards:
• Pool Lifeguard Award (Valid for 12 months)

Course Fees
Our Perth course fee is $1750, which includes up to ten (10) participants. Additional participants can be added at the cost of $175 per participant.

Our Broome course fee is $1950, which includes up to ten (10) participants. Additional participants can be added at the cost of $195 per participant.

The minimum number required for a group booking is five

  • Course Content
    • Online theory exam
    • PD / Workshop session latest industry developments/changes/updates
    • Oxygen setup/takedown / Use in resuscitation
    • Rescue and resuscitate (CPR with BVM & Oxygen on adult & infant)
    • Spinal rescue and management
    • Anaphylaxis
    • Asthma
    • Minor wound cleaning and dressing
    • Shock

Physical Assessments (wet component):

  • Fitness Test: Swim 400m continuously within 13 minutes. 100m freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100m survival backstroke, 100m sidestroke;
    OR
    Fitness Test – Swim 200m in less than 6 minutes (using any stroke)
  • Timed Tow: Swim 50m, then tow a patient 50m within 3min 15 sec.
  • Survival and Rescue Skills: Demonstrate a range of survival techniques and appropriate rescues for a range of different aquatic environments and scenarios
  • Spinal Injuries: Basic management of a suspected spinal injury in shallow water
  • Rescue Initiative: Demonstrate initiative in effecting a rescue of two people who are in difficulty up to 15m from safety
  • Deep Water Retrieval Test: the ability to retrieve an object from the deepest water within the aquatic environment
  • Lift Test: ability to lift a swimmer out of the water (using appropriate manual handling procedures)
  • Rescue Test: 25m swim / 25m non-contact tow in less than 1 min and 45 seconds
