2-day Swimming Pool Lifeguard Training Course

This Swimming Pool Lifeguard Course has no prerequisites other than that the participant must be a minimum of 16 years of age. It suits anyone seeking the qualifications needed to work as a Pool Lifeguard.

Nationally Recognised Units of Competency

To meet the requirements of this award, all applicants will need to complete and be deemed competent in the SISSS00133 – Pool Lifeguard (Skill Set), which consists of:

• HLTAID011 Provide first aid (includes a current HLTAID009 Provide CPR)
• SISCAQU019 Supervise clients in aquatic locations
• SISCAQU020 Perform water rescues
• SISCAQU021 Perform complex water rescues
• SISCAQU022 Provide oxygen resuscitation and therapy in an aquatic environment

You MUST have completed the unit HLTAID011 – Provide first aid before enrolling in this two-day course. Your Statement of Attainment will be requested upon enrollment.

The HLTAID011 unit is a prerequisite for SISCAQU022 – Provide oxygen

Resuscitation and therapy in an aquatic environment.

If you do not hold the unit HLTAID011 – Provide first aid,

You must enrol in the 3-Day Pool Lifeguard course or complete

The unit before enrolling in this 2-day course.

What You’ll Learn

This two-day course covers the following content:

• Techniques for applying first aid in various situations and injuries specific to Lifeguarding.

• First aid techniques for aquatic injuries

• The Role of a Pool Lifeguard

•  Legal considerations

• Risk analysis and mitigation

• Effective aquatic supervision and communication

• Oxygen use and advanced care of the patient (SISCAQU022)

• Incident reporting and scenario-based response

• Communication methods & skills

Practical (Wet) Assessments

Fitness Test (Choose One):

• Option 1: Swim 400m continuously in under 13 minutes:
• (100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 100m survival backstroke, 100m sidestroke)
• Option 2: Swim 200m using any stroke in under 6 minutes

Rescue Assessments:

• Timed Tow: 50m swim + 50m patient tow (under 3 mins 15 sec)
• Survival and Rescue Skills: Demonstrate techniques in varied rescue scenarios
• Spinal Injury Management: Basic rescue in shallow water
• Rescue Initiative: Assist two distressed swimmers 15m from safety
• Deep Water Retrieval: Retrieve the object from the most profound pool depth
• Lift Test: Lift the swimmer from the pool using correct manual handling
• Rescue Test: 25m swim + 25m non-contact tow (under 1 min 45 sec)
• Simulated Rescue Response Scenario

Course Delivery and Duration

Delivery Mode: Blended (Online theory + Face-to-face practical sessions)

Course duration: 2 Days (16 Hours)

Course Fees

• Price Perth: $3,300 and includes up to 10 participants. Additional participants can be added for $330 each.
• Price Broome: $3,900 and includes up to 5 participants. Additional participants can be added for $390  each.
