Summer is fast approaching — and sadly, so is the season when we see an increase in drowning deaths and child-related water incidents across Western Australia.
Now is the time for homeowners to check that their pool barriers meet Australian Standards and state regulations.
When it comes to water safety, active supervision is everything.
Always watch children — your own and your visitors’ — when they are in or near the pool.
If you’re hosting a party, take extra precautions:
Lock the pool area if it’s not in use.
If you plan to swim, assign a responsible adult who knows CPR to supervise.
Want peace of mind? West Coast Water Safety can provide nationally qualified lifeguards with Working with Children (WWC) checks and National Police Clearance. Our lifeguards don’t just watch from the side — they get in the water with the kids, keep them safe, and make sure everyone has fun.
You can relax, enjoy your guests, and leave water safety to us!
Children under 5 are at the highest risk of drowning.
Between 1995 and 1999, 50 children under 14 drowned in Western Australia, and nearly half were under 5. In that same period, 247 children were admitted to the hospital after near-drowning incidents.
So, before your next gathering, ask yourself — is it really “crazy” to hire a professional lifeguard? The cost of an ambulance alone can be over $900, not to mention the unimaginable cost of losing a life.
Let’s make this a safe and happy summer for everyone.
